As you may know, Torynova Couture’s Wearable Stories Collection consists of garments that are made from fabric illustrated with our original interpretations of various classical stories, including Swan Lake. Written by the Russian composer Tchaikovsky (Пётр Ильич Чайковский), the ballet Swan Lake is a cultural treasure and is recognized as such and performed by ballet companies all over the globe; held in particularly high regard is its performance by the infamous Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow, Russia.
It has been a thrilling past few weeks for me and for Torynova Couture. We were working on a very special commission this summer for the lovely prima ballerina, Bella Kowalski. Standing at exactly five feet, this doll of a performer requested to have our Swan Lake cocktail dress custom tailored to fit her elegant frame. This summer Bella was invited to study with the School of American Ballet, located at Lincoln Center, NYC. Her special dress commission was just in time for the Annual New York City Ballet Gala held in Saratoga, NY, where Bella was heading with her fellow S.A.B. ballerinas.
After the gala, Bella admitted that she looked and felt like a princess, wearing her custom made, one of a kind gown. Certainly, she invited attention and intrigue, and as for her new wardrobe, featuring the Swan Princess, it looked absolutely breath-taking on her. The gown, certainly fulfilled our vision and instantly inspired voyeurs to come out of hiding and spark conversation with the enchanting ballerina.
This is already an exciting summer for Bella. Aside from acquiring our dress, she got into S.A.B. and was interviewed by the Buffalo News as an aspiring local star. We really didn’t want to let this girl down! Thankfully, her fun night and the commission was a grand success.
The photos featured here are of Bella modeling our dress on her tiny frame. In the past, our silhouettes were commissioned by women as evening dresses or specifically for prom. This time, a ballerina chose a dress with a ballet storyline and wore it to a grand ballet gala. It sounds perfect, doesn’t it? Thank you, Bella, for wearing our garment with such refined grace.
